Who I am
My name is Shreeharsh Kelkar. I work as a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley. My research (and teaching!) specialty is the field of Science, Technology, and Society or STS. Within STS, I focus on the history and sociology of computing, labor, and expertise.
I have a website which has more about the academic side of me: the courses I teach, the research papers I have published, the talks I have given, and on and on.
What’s this Substack for?
This Substack is going to be my website to think out loud. Essentially, I hope to write some informed reflections on particular issues on which I think I have some expertise.
Unfortunately, I have not been a very productive writer (I wrote three essays on Medium over a few years) so I want to experiment with a different style on this Substack. I want to write shorter posts that are more episodic but, taken together, can say something substantive about some topic. More on my plans at this link.
Why subscribe?
My goal is to start by writing at least one post a week. The topics I write about will be of interest to both academics who specialize in STS but also the general public interested in broader questions of policy around computing.
